It's a proud tradition for businesses to showcase their funny bones on April 1st, and it's fair to say that the Australian retail industry didn't hold back this year. Here is a round-up of some of the best April Fool's Day jokes we've seen so far.

ME Bank and Volley – VolleyPay

In a joint venture no one saw coming, ME Bank and Volley created a payment shoe – VolleyPay-  that takes ‘footing the bill’ to new heights. The footwear company created a special shoe with a credit card embedded in the sole, allowing users to pay with their feet.

“When ME customers use VolleyPay to purchase their daily coffee, the family shopping or a romantic meal, the technology will allow them to kick, dance and pay in a fashion-forward way,” said Ingrid Purcell, CMO at ME Bank.

“Volley may be known for our classic footwear, but we’re also always looking towards the future. That’s why we’re incredibly excited to be foot pioneers in the wearable payments space,” said Stephen Bakos, Head Scientist in Volley’s Foot Science Division.

RedBalloon – Pawsome Pet Experiences

The online experiences retailer, RedBalloon, wants consumers to take their pets on holidays! In a post shared on social platforms, RedBalloon shared the new experience platform – Pawesome Pet Experiences – which lets adventure seekers travel with their furry pals by their side.

“Guaranteed to get tails wagging, the range will be available throughout the month and includes everything from paragliding to high tea, and day spa packages. Each experience is tailored to ensure all kinds of pets can enjoy them, from cats and dogs to bunnies and guinea pigs!” the website shared.

Deliveroo – Aussie Remix

Delivery service, Deliverooo, shared its tongue-in-cheek approach to April Fool’s Day with the ‘Aussie Remix’ sauce. The ‘sauce’ features a combination of two favourites – coriander and pickles – in one handy sauce. Available in both a squeezy bottle and jar, the post was shared on the company’s socials, with mixed reviews. “Coriander 🤮,” wrote one user – “I know this is a JOKE but I’d eat it,” wrote another.

Webjet – Skydive Seat

Now that borders have re-opened, Webjet is giving its customers the chance to choose a skydiving seat on their next flights in New Zealand. Plus, they’re taking 40 percent off ticket prices for those who choose the unique flight. “New Zealand is the ultimate destination for adventure and adrenaline junkies. So in the spirit of adventure, Webjet New Zealand is proud to announce the introduction of Skydive Seats!” the website reads.

“The ultimate way to add a thrill to any holiday without breaking the bank, travellers are invited to save money with Webjet NZ by choosing to jump out of the plane over their destination. Skydive Seat passengers are fitted with jumpsuits and parachutes before departure and guided through landing procedures during the usual safety demonstrations.
