According to the latest American Customer Satisfaction Index, Costco is the highest rated Internet retailer in the US.

After surveying 300,000 customers and more than 400 companies in 46 industries, the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) has rated the most highly regarded businesses operating within the e-commerce industry.

For the first year, Costco has been ranked among the country’s top online retailers, making a grand entrance by taking out the top spot with a score of 83. Costco also received the same score in the bricks-and-mortar department/discount and supermarket categories. This comes less than two months after the omnichannel retailer increased its online revenue by 32.3 percent.

Second place went to Amazon who scored three points lower than last year with a score of 82. This is the first year since 2010 that the global marketplace didn’t rake number one in the index, with the report claiming its $13.7 billion purchase of Whole Foods in 2017 has resulted in a decline in “its retail business growth”.

A number of other e-commerce brands also ranked well in the index, with Etsy, Kohl’s, Nike and Nordstrom all scoring an 81. Despite its remarkable strides towards improving its digital commerce model, however, Walmart came in much lower than some of its competitors with a score of 74.

The report favoured brands that have mobile apps and a simple desktop checkout process. Overall, US-based consumer sentiment saw mobile apps score an 86 for quality and 85 for reliability, while easy checkout processes on desktops scored 85, which is two points less than last year.
