The online book retailer is set to close this month after nearly 20 years of operation as Amazon continues to make cuts.

Book Depository, a UK-based, global online book retailer has announced it will be closing before the end of the month.

Purchased by Amazon in 2011, Book Depository offers over 20 million titles and free shipping across the globe. Launched in 2004, the company motto is to make “All Books Available to All”. With cheap wholesale pricing, discounting, free shipping with no minimum spend, 37 local currencies, and access to exclusive titles, Book Depository has long been a favourite for readers across the globe.

The announcement was posted on the company website and social medias reading:  “We are sorry to let you know that Book Depository will be closing on 26 April 2023. You can still place orders until midday (12pm BST) on 26 April and we will continue to deliver your purchases and provide support for any order issues until 23 June 2023. From all of us at Book Depository we want to say “thank you.” Delivering your favourite reads to you since 2007 has been a pleasure.”

Users can download their wishlist and continue to access customer support tools until the end of June 2023.

This shutdown comes following Amazon’s mass layoffs and plans to eliminate further roles.

“For several years leading up to this one, most of our businesses added a significant amount of headcount,” Amazon chief executive Andy Jassy said last month

“This made sense given what was happening in our businesses and the economy as a whole.

“However, given the uncertain economy in which we reside, and the uncertainty that exists in the near future, we have chosen to be more streamlined in our costs and headcount.

“The overriding tenet of our annual planning this year was to be leaner while doing so in a way that enables us to still invest robustly in the key long-term customer experiences that we believe can meaningfully improve customers’ lives and Amazon as a whole.”

While the number of staff effected is unknown, it is known that Book Depository has offices in London, Gloucester, Madrid, Cape Town and Chennai, and fulfilment centres in the UK and here in Australia.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re enrolled in an art course or you just want to write an art essay https://fineartsworkshop.com/2019/12/how-to-write-a-paper-about-classical-art/ for fun , you’ll need to put in the effort to master the written word. When it comes to writing about works of art, you will need to take into consideration not just the subject matter, but also the medium, as well as the historical context.
