After filing for bankruptcy for the second time in November 2016, troubled fashion retailer, American Apparel recently went through a major online re-launch. Now, under the guidance of its new owners, the US retailer is bringing its online range back to Australia.

Following American Apparel’s US launch on April 24, the brand is expanding its domestic shopping network through a partnership with delivery and payment provider, Borderfree. This new relationship will allow the brand to re-initiate itself in the global e-commerce marketplace.

This means that consumers in more than 200 countries, including Australia, can once again shop from the iconic retailer’s range of ‘basics’.

Since Gildan Activewear acquired American Apparel for $US88 billion in 2017, the company has been busy working behind the scenes to take the brand ‘back to basics’.

In a statement released by Gildan, the wholesaler said its manufacturing network would be crucial to the success of American Apparel’s re-launch.

“As part of Gildan’s family of brands, American Apparel now has access to one of the world’s largest and most responsible manufacturing networks.

“Under Gildan’s ownership, American Apparel is now able to offer the same great styles at more affordable prices, reinforcing the brand’s promise of quality products and commitment to being ethically made and sweatshop free,” a spokesperson for Gildan said.

In the time between filing for voluntary administration, and Gildan’s acquisition, consumers took to social media to express their love of the brand, “The outpouring of love for this brand has been great,” Gildan told Retail Dive late last year.

“We are very thankful to this brand’s loyal fans for their patience and support as we bring this iconic brand back, better than ever.”
