As the digital loyalty space continues to develop and transform, one of Australia's most prominent businesses is taking its next step forward.

Flybuys has appointed Tim Smart as its new Chief Technology Officer, who will drive further innovations to the business. Smart is lauded as an ‘accomplished leader’, who has previously held the role of Chief Technology Services Officer at SEEK. In this role, he focussed on building ‘high performance’ tech teams, led large scale programs and pioneered practices including scrum, shift left DevOps and security.

“We’re excited to welcome Tim to our Flybuys Leadership Team, and he’s joining Flybuys at an exciting time as we embark on delivering some major initiatives in the technology space,” explained John Merakovsky, the CEO of Flybuys.

Smart will help the business drive technical transformations to achieve further growth and profitability for Flybuys. He will work to enhance customer engagement, loyalty, and modernising its current technology in the new role. “I’m thrilled to join Flybuys and look forward to working with the team, further accelerating our agility, modernising our technology, and ultimately, rewarding our more than eight million active members,” Smart said.

Flybuys has recently embarked on a series of partnerships with Coles, Klarna and others. Earlier in the year, BNPL provider Klarna and Flybuys announced a strategic partnership that allows online shoppers to collect Flybuy points when using the Klarna app. The Flybuy users can collect ‘vibe’ points when they shop using the BNPL app, which aims to give Flybuys access to a younger audience. “This partnership with Klarna opens up new opportunities for our members to collect points and even more ways to be savvy with their shopping and be rewarded for it,” shared Merakovsky.

More recently, the loyalty program announced a partnership with Coles to help simplify the online shopping process for groceries. “We want to help our customers shop more easily anytime, anywhere, anyhow, and with a growing number of our customers choosing to shop with Coles Online for the convenience and great value, we want to make the checkout process simpler,” said Ben Hassing, the Chief Executive of E-Commerce.
