While the ORIAs may have looked a bit different this year, it didn't stop the best of Australian retailers to celebrate their efforts for 2020.

The Online Retailer Industry Awards, hosted by Online Retailer Industry Association in conjunction with Australia Post, showcased some of the leading Australian online retailers and celebrated the innovators and creative minds of the e-commerce industry.

For the first time, the event was hosted virtually, with a few special awards to highlight the Unsung Heroes of the industry, as well as new awards to celebrate ‘woke’ retailers in Australia.

Here are the winners of this year’s event and their reactions to the big wins.

Best Pureplay Retailer – Lovehoney

This award was presented to the online-only retailer that has demonstrated ‘best practice in merchandising, service, functionality and customer experience’. Previous winners include Showpo, Appliances Online and Booktopia. This year’s winner is Lovehoney, the global sexual wellness brand, which was founded in 2002.

“We are thrilled and honoured to win Best PurePlay Retailer award at this year’s ORIAs, and I would like to extend a big thank you to our customers, suppliers and our team at Lovehoney, without whom it wouldn’t have been possible,” said Rob Godwin, the Director at Lovehoney Australia.

“It’s absolutely wonderful for the adult industry to be recognised alongside major mainstream retailers including The Iconic, Esther & Co, Koh Australia, Tinyme, and Ettitude, at such a prestigious awards ceremony. We hope this is the first of many awards for Lovehoney at the ORIAs,” he said.

Online Retailer Of The Year – Tinyme

This prestigious award is known as the ‘Best of the Best’. It celebrates the Australian retailer that exemplifies the best practices for retailers across the country and is a leader through the e-commerce industry.

This year’s winner is Tinyme, the Australian retailer that offers personalised products for kids.

“Feel honestly undeserving and humbled to win back to back Online Retailer of the Year awards. Missed flying up to Sydney to hang out with everyone this year. Thanks again to all the team at Tinyme. It’s a pleasure to work with such a smart, kind and creative team,” Ben Hare, the Director and COO of Tinyme, told Power Retail.

Australia Post Unsung Heroes

Australia Post announced a new series of awards to celebrate the ‘unsung heroes’ of the e-commerce industry in Australia.

“This has been an historic year with record online shopping growth coupled with incredible challenges for business due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but seeing people find ways to adapt has been truly inspirational,” said Gary Starr, Australia Post Executive General Manager Business, Government & International.

“We’re so proud to be part of the ORIAS again this year and to have the opportunity to acknowledge Australia’s hardworking online retailers.”

The two awards highlighted the efforts from a small and large retailer – this year’s winners included Melissa Murat, the Co-Founder & Managing Director of Pantry to Plate Co. and Eunsoo Jeong from Esther & Co.

“[Twenty-twenty] has been a tumultuous year for our business, we’ve had to pivot fast and change how we do things, but I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved,” said Melissa Murat.

“This has been a year like no other and I’m really proud of the way we’ve been able to continue growing the business, and delivering clothes and accessories our customers love,” shared Eunsoo Jeong.

Congratulations to all the nominees and winners of this year’s ORIAs – what a way to celebrate the huge year filled with monumental changes and innovations.
