How Can a Brand Go Global?
When going global, there are certain factors that must be considered before starting out. A business that has an omnichannel or a pureplay approach has the capabilities to reach an overseas market, especially when it comes to e-commerce. However, there are a few tips to consider before expanding.
Understand Your Target Market
Just because you want to expand your brand overseas, doesn’t mean you have to go big or go home. Reaching a new demographic is a huge step, and retailers have to put as much effort into understanding its overseas market as it does for its local demographic. In order to do this, take into consideration the cultural differences, language barriers and relevancy to the product. When entering a new market, you don’t have to pick the largest market – opt, instead, for the most relevant one.
Simultaneously Be an Insider and an Outsider
In relation to the aforementioned point, in order to truly understand your target market, you have to seek an insider’s view of the culture, daily activities and beliefs. Small things like slang can play a huge role in your branding, so make sure you’re equipped with expert knowledge on the location before entering it.
Understand its Infrastructure
When moving to a new country with your brand, understanding its business infrastructure is an imperative step. Do some research before entering a new market, no matter where it is you’re going. Check its logistics options, whether it supports click and collect, the payment options it provides and how other retailers reach their customers.
