In a world of fast-paced technology and online advancements, Instagram has just made it even easier to shop with the touch of a finger. Instagram’s Shoppable posts have been expanded to our shores, making those online purchases even harder to resist.

Launched in the US last year, Instagram ‘shoppable’ posts, fittingly dubbed ‘Shopping’, were created as a way of expanding businesses’ reach to their customers in an organic way. What resulted was consumers being able to shop directly from their news feed, no search required. To enable this launch in Australia, Instagram has worked with two iconic Australian businesses – Myer, Country Road and a small-medium business, PepperMayo.

Eighty percent of Instagram users follow a business and more than 200 million people visit a business profile daily, making this roll-out an obvious transition for Instagram. People come to Instagram every day to shop and find new products from brands they love and this introduction of shoppable posts is another way that Australian businesses; of all sizes; can build valuable connections with the Instagram community. Anna Delaney, National Manager, Social Media & Digital Partnerships at Myer commented on this connection, “Instagram is an important platform for our customers, which makes it an important platform for Myer.”

Australia is the first country in the Asia-Pacific where this feature is being launched, and this will allow Australian businesses to offer a more seamless shopping experience for their customers. Naomi Shepherd, Group Industry Director, Facebook and Instagram ANZ commented, “we’re thrilled to be the first international market outside of Europe and the Americas to enable Shopping for our local community, providing businesses and retailers of all sizes with the tools to connect with customers in a fresh, immersive way.”

These ‘shoppable’ posts means that Instagram can go from a place where businesses are discovered, to where business is done. The new shopping feature creates a sense of discovery and helps attract new customers via a visual storefront. Jim Squires, Global Head of Business for Instagram, noted the significance of this event, “people come to Instagram every day to discover and buy products from their favourite businesses. We want that to be a seamless experience.”

The new shopping feature is available in Australia from now.
