Online retailer, Mulberry is closing down its Sydney store as part of a new distribution deal with Luxury Retail Group (LRG), which will see a flagship store open in Melbourne's CBD, with more premier locations to follow.

British fashion brand, Mulberry is entering the Australian market in a new deal with LRG.

Mulberry believes this distribution deal will give them a greater footing in the local Australian market, with store leases already in place at a number of locations across Melbourne and Sydney, including Emporium, Chadstone, and QVB.

LRG’s Managing Director, Nelson Mair and Mulberry’s CEO, Thierry Andretta are both excited about the deal.

“I am pleased to announce our partnership with LRG in Australia. We look forward to seeing significant growth and opportunity for Mulberry in this market,” says Andretta.

The first Australian store is currently under construction at Emporium in Melbourne’s CBD and is slated to open in July. It’s also been reported that the flagship Australian store will be the first global store to unveil the brand’s new design concept, with Mulberry’s Creative Director, Johnny Coca claiming it will showcase the company’s “strong British style and sensibility”, while also creating a more holistic shopping experience.

“[We’re] looking forward to achieving strong growth results and new customer reach within the market,” Mair says.

Mulberry had been trading out of a Westfield store on Sydney’s Pitt Street since 2010, but is expected to shut its doors as part of the company’s new deal with LRG.

LRG’s distribution deal with Mulberry is in addition to the company’s earlier success in bringing the Furla Group to the Australian market and developing a 19-store footprint over the span of four years, which reportedly led to a total growth level of 59 percent in 2017. This is in addition to LRG’s work on the Kering Group’s launch of Balenciaga’s retail network and the company’s operation of the global Sneakerboy business.
