Australia Post is temporarily pausing parcel pickup for Greater Metro Melbourne e-commerce retailers, for the next five days to help aid the strain of overwhelming the service.

For the next five days, parcel pickups, collections and lodgements will be delayed for greater Metro Melbourne e-commerce retailers, Australia Post has explained.

There is currently a major backlog of items for Australia Post, and this delay will help them get back on track. The disruption will begin on October 1st and will end on Wednesday 5th October.

“The safety of our people is our highest priority. This temporary measure will allow us to responsibly clear record parcel volumes while our Greater Melbourne Metro operations are impacted by major COVID-19 disruptions. Our team will continue processing parcels across the weekend in affected areas,” a spokesperson for Australia Post explained. “We apologise for the inconvenience.”

All letters, StarTrack Premium, Express Post, StarTrack Courier, and StarTrack Express will be unaffected by the delay. Furthermore, international inbound and outbound parcels will also be unaffected. This will not affect e-commerce deliveries for regional Victoria and other states and territories.

Editor’s Note: Earlier, we incorrectly stated that e-commerce parcels would be delayed, rather than parcel pickup for e-commerce retailers. This has been corrected.

I don’t think this is worded correctly.
Australia Post are stopping picking up from Melbourne based retailers for deliveries to any state for 5 days. Deliveries dispatched from other states to Melbourne residents will be unaffected.

    Competitive disadvantage.
“international inbound and outbound parcels will also be unaffected”
Taxes help subsidize local business and a tax payer owned business favors inbound freight from overseas.
    Not right!
