Retail has gone through seismic changes over the last few months, and the industry will never be the same once it's done. In an effort to discover innovative solutions for the industry, MI Academy is launching the Retail Hack Games e-Edition.

“This is the first event of its kind,” MI Academy explained. Originally held as an in-person event, this year MI Academy will host this year’s games virtually as a result of COVID-19.

With 50 of the ‘brightest minds in Australian e-commerce’, the Retail Hack Games allows the competitors to collaborate virtually for a week and develop solutions to ‘real issues’ that are currently facing Australian retailers.

Never before has retail needed such a leg up from experts and innovative minds. Due to COVID-19, there have been shortages of staff, severe delays in shipping and intense pressure all around. “It is going to take a diversity of minds to unlock a business’s capacity to adapt and weather the storm,” a spokesperson from MI Academy explained.

“Over the past few weeks, we have spoken with retail industry leaders, to understand the climate and devise a game plan that will help retailers build resilience during these uncertain times,” said Alita Harvey-Rodriguez, the Founder and Managing Director of MI Academy.

“We’re an industry that relies heavily on our ability to connect and share ideas, and we want to ensure this continues. There’s no strategy in anyone’s playbook as to what step we should next take, but we do believe with the right minds on the job, we can help real solutions begin to come to life,” she said.

“What the industry is looking for are answers that are immediately applicable, considered and insightful – innovation for retail new normal,” Harvey-Rodriguez explained. “That’s why we’re recruiting the best in the business to help us as a collective to achieve this.”

The event will run from June 4 to June 12, and is free for anyone working in Australian retail to join. There are 50 places available to the Retail Hack Games e-Edition, and entries close May 15.
