Munro Footwear Group has acquired Ziera for an undisclosed amount. This comes after Ziera filed for voluntary administration in September this year.

The Australian footwear brand, formerly known as Kumfs, had no interest from buyers, resulting in many brick-and-mortar stores closing. However, it has been snapped up by the same company that owns the likes of Styletread, Wanted Shoes and Colorado.

During the time of store closure announcements, the elected administrator, Conor Elhinney, noted that Ziera would experience a ‘slimmed down’ version of the business. his aimed to attract further interest from potential buyers of the retailer. At the time of the administration, e-commerce sales had slipped and the NZ dollar had dropped, resulting in lower sales and steeper manufacturing costs.

The acquisition of Ziera will take place via Styling Services, the wholesale division of Munro Footwear Group. “We know how important comfort is to our customers and that comfort is a rapidly growing category, and Ziera is a name synonymous with comfort,” said Jay Munro, the CEO of Munro Footwear Group.

“By combining Ziera’s 70 years of expertise in comfort technology with our successful history in supplying independent and major retailers, I’m confident that we will further develop the Ziera brand and offering for current and future customers,” he added. “On behalf of the Munro Family and Styling Services, I warmly welcome the Ziera brand and customers into our Group. We’re genuinely excited about the opportunity of adding our touch to what has been an industry-leading and iconic comfort brand.”

Munro Footwear Group has a long history of acquisitions, with its most recent purchase of Fusion Factory Brands in 2017. Further details regarding the acquisition to come.

I am a resident of Wellington New Zealand and am looking for a comfortable walking and also dress shoe. My size is 101/2 2e feeting in an Asics womens sports shoe. Unfortunately, over the years the sports shoes no longer give you the arch support in the inner soles. I know in the past the Kumps and Ziera shoes gave you that support. I would appreciate it if you could inform me of shoe shops in the Wellington area that I can call upon to give me a supportive and comfortable walking shoe. There appears to be a gap in the market for this type of shoe, quality and comfort is what most consumers are looking for now.
    Kind regards
    Rosalyn Ross
