Munro Footwear Group is taking the next step forward in its e-commerce strategy with the launch of its new DC.

The $50 million distribution centre will be a part of the $600 million MidWest Logistics Hub, located in Truganiana, Victoria – 22km west of the CBD. Other major occupiers of this DC space include Toll, Bridgestone, Coles and Uniqlo, and is operated by Charter Hall Prime Industrial Fund.

This new commitment aims to help Munro Footwear Group (MFG) to optimise and expand its current e-commerce offering, which is a part of its multi-year growth strategy. MFG currently houses more than 260 stories and 11 e-commerce platforms, including Midas, Diana Ferrari, Mathers, Wanted Shoes and StyleTread, among others. MFG has experienced a 25 percent YoY increase in online sales.

MFG’s new DC will enhance its online growth strategy

“We are on a strong growth trajectory and have made a major investment in optimising our supply chain operations to support our increasing in-store and online sales,” shared Marcus Bartlett, the COO of MFG. “This new facility is a key initiative in our multi-year growth plan to expand our business, optimise our customer experience and strengthen our distribution capability, particularly to support online sales.”

Currently, MFG has a DC in Thornbury but have decided to make a move for somewhere with more sophisticated tech for its growing online requirements.

The new centre, which has a total site area of 46,815 sqm, will include Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR) solutions that will have a capacity to store up to 1.2 million units. “The new AMR solution will increase picking speed and accuracy, creating greater productivity and efficiency in operations, while reducing lead times to customers,” a joint statement read.

What’s more, the site is environmentally conscious – designed to reach a minimum five-star Green Rating.

“We are pleased to welcome the Munro Footwear team to our growing portfolio, securing for them an outstanding new facility that provides premium access to distribution channels including the Port of Melbourne,” shared Andrew Simons, the Head of Development at Harter Hall.

This will be one of the largest AMR goods-to-person deployments in Australia, explained Sam Dellios, the Director of TMX, the company that will project manage the development of the DC. “Munro has gone through a major boost in sales from the recent retail explosion, so our team has designed this new facility to flexibly support Munro’s dynamic growth from both in-store and online sales.”
