Blake Nordstrom, co-president of Nordstrom Inc. has passed away at age 58.

The cross-channel department store released a statement in the New Year announcing the executive’s death, saying he died early in the morning on January 2, 2019, in Seattle.

The company’s Chairman of the Board, Brad Smith said that it would be business as usual for the retailer, thanking the public for their respect of the privacy of the Nordstrom family during the difficult time.

“My heart goes out to the Nordstrom family and everyone at the company during this difficult time. Everyone who worked with Blake knew of his passion and deep commitment to employees, customers and the communities we serve. We are fortunate to have continued leadership from Co-Presidents, Pete and Eric Nordstrom,” Smith said in his statement.

It had been revealed in late 2018 that Blake Nordstrom has been diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer, but at the time the co-president of Nordstrom said his condition was treatable.

Founded in 1901 by the Nordstroms’ great-grandfather, John W. Nordstrom, Blake had reportedly been working for the family business for more than 40 years, helping to take the company from a successful offline department store to a modern business with an innovative approach to cross-channel retail trade.

Referred to as a “thoughtful visionary”, using his retail acumen to ensure Nordstrom consistently remained one-step ahead of its competition.
