We had a chat with Brittany Rinker, the Senior Program Manager at Amazon Australia about the rising popularity of sales events, the change in modern customer expectations and how small businesses can benefit from using the platform.

Amazon is no stranger to the online retail industry. As one of the biggest names in the game, when it hit Australia, it was predicted to bury other names in its wake. While this didn’t happen right away, the giant is slowly taking over Aussies and changing the way we shop online.

Amazon entered Aussie waters in December 2017, with quite the fanfare. Now on its way to its two-year anniversary, Amazon has helped change the way shoppers see brands, as Britanny Rinker explained. “We know that the retail landscape is changing; what do we see in the future; what’s changing; how can retailers adapt? And we know that modern customers are no longer single channel or single store shoppers, so creating an omnichannel approach for your business is going to be key in reaching customers more often.”

On July 15th and 16th, Amazon hosted its record-breaking Prime Day, a sale that lasted for two days, jam-packed with deals and savings exclusively for Amazon Prime members. Alongside Black Friday, Click Frenzy and other online sales events, Amazon Australia is contributing to the shaping of these events. “We are seeing a lot of excitement, right now, around online deal events. Prime Day, Click Frenzy, Black Friday – these are things that we know customers love. They love to be a part of these deals events and know they’re getting good value for what they’re purchasing,” Ms Rinker continued. “This is something I think we’ll continue to see trend. We can anticipate that it will grow year on year.”
