A Russian e-commerce leader has entered the US market and Walmart is recording record online growth. Power Retail Sparks highlights some of the biggest international online retail news of the week.

 

Russian Platform, Wildberries, Launches in US Market

Wildberries, the Russian e-commerce platform, has launched in the US. The retailer is the largest online platform in Russia, with more than 40,000 merchants on its platform and 5.5 million products. American consumers will have access to products by shopping via the desktop or mobile platforms, as well as the App, said the company in a statement. The US is now the 14th country that Wildberries has entered – the retailer has secured its spot throughout many countries in Europe.

“The online platform brings together producers and sellers from different countries -Russia, Germany, France, Poland, and many others,” said Vyacheslav Ivaschenko, the Development Director at Wildberries. “We are open to broadening of cooperation with US entrepreneurs, including small and medium businesses, whose products are already presented on the territory of many states where Wildberries are present.”

 

Walmart Online Sales Grow by 21 Percent

Walmart’s e-commerce sales have increased by 21 percent in 2021 and now sits at $65 billion. According to a report from ComprarAcciones, Walmart’s online sales represent ‘nearly’ one-sixth of Amazon’s total revenue.

Furthermore, the rise of Click & Collect has further accelerated this boom, with 90 percent of American consumers living within a 16-kilometre radius from a Walmart store. Reports have shown that Click & Collect accounts for 9.1 percent of all online purchases, which has increased from 5.8 percent in 2020.
