Rebel Rolls Out New Mega Store
Sports fans in Hobart are treated to the opening of the State’s largest rebel store as Super Retail Group continues its omnichannel investment.
rebel has opened its biggest store in Tasmania, bringing a 3000-square-metre sporting destination to Hobart’s CBD and creating more than 40 jobs.
“The new store will be a go-to destination for Tasmanians who love sport, bringing together an incredible range of the biggest and most popular sports, brands and products under one roof,” rebel Managing Director Jenny Child said.
he store will be the second rCX (“rebel Customer Experience”) format location in Tasmania, offering customers a more interactive shopping experience, such as a football experience zone.
The large-format store will stock Tasmanian Devils guernseys and teamwear, alongside an extensive range of sports equipment and apparel ahead of the team’s launch.
“We know how passionate Tasmanians are about sport and with the state’s first AFL team on the horizon, there’s never been a more exciting time to open a store of this scale in Hobart.”
“We’re committed to being the home of sport in Australia and we are thrilled to have revitalised this fantastic CBD space where we can offer a whole range of products and experiences for the first time in Tasmania,” says Child.
Child said the rollout of key CBD locations and new regional stores would be a key strategic growth engine for rebel over the next five years. By June 2031, rebel plans to grow its regional network from 39 to 70 stores, spanning rCX, foundation and smaller-format locations.
“The majority of our new store growth over the next five years is planned in regional Australia, making rebel the go-to destination for sport no matter where our customers live and play,’ she said.
A broader omnichannel strategy also sits behind the group’s store investment, with Super Retail Group continuing to connect its physical network with digital shopping, fulfilment and click-and-collect capabilities. The group has flagged plans to expand its network by more than 100 stores by 2031 while strengthening its omnichannel capabilities, with its strategy focused on meeting customers “where and how they shop.”
Supercheap Auto also recently began the rollout of its next-generation store format, reflecting the group’s broader focus on evolving physical retail alongside digital experiences.
