Australian retailers have rallied behind First Responders Day to celebrate our everyday heroes, offering a range of special discounts for them.

More than 60 Australian retailers have rallied behind our frontline heroes to offer special deals for First Responders Day on Thursday May 16.

Some of Australia’s most iconic brands are participating with discounts ranging from 10-50 percent off in thousands of stores nationwide.

For five years now, the Australian retail sector celebrates First Responders Day annually to honour the bravery, dedication, and contribution of first responders during times of crisis, by providing special offers to these individuals at all participating Australian retail stores.

Approximately 300,000 Australians fall under the first responder category with jobs ranging from medical and health workers, doctors, nurses and paramedics, as well as ambulance staff, to police personnel, firefighters, defence and border force personnel, SES, lifesavers and quarantine workers.

ARA CEO Paul Zahra said it is vital to continue to recognise and thank our first responders for their community contribution.

“In addition to their daily sacrifices, our first responders have steered us through a global pandemic, unprecedented natural disasters and emergency situations in recent years,” he said.

“First responders are grappling with ‘perma-crisis’ environment and we owe an enormous debt of gratitude to our first responders for helping our communities remain resilient through these intensely challenging times.

“First Responders Day is now in its fifth year. It is the retail industry’s way of showing our appreciation to those who sacrifice so much to keep us all safe and healthy,” said Zahra.

The ARA writes, “It’s an opportunity to actively engage with the community, fostering unity and showcasing corporate social responsibility. Supporting first responders not only honours their crucial role but also creates a positive impact that resonates with both employees and customers.”

David Jones, Myer, Costco, JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Red Rooster, Best&Less, Savers and more are participating, with discounts ranging from 10 – 50 percent off for first responders.
