Shopify has launched a mobile app, Shop, which assists in parcel tracking from Shopify merchants, browse recommended products and make purchases.

Shop is a rebrand of its previous tracking package app, Arrive. Its tracking capabilities remain the same from its predecessor. However, it now also acts as a consumer-facing shopping app.

This pivot for the app reflects the changes in consumer behaviour as customers shift from favouring desktop to mobile. Moreover, there has also been trending shifts of consumers turning from mobile web to in-app shopping.

“What we want to do with Shop is give them a place to call their own,” said Carl Riveria, the General Manager of Shop.

The customer-facing app allows consumers to locate nearby retailers and highlights the retailer’s offering. This includes shipping options, pick-up and returns policies.

The app also provides in-app purchase capabilities and personalised recommended products. This aims to generate a new customer base and preserve loyal consumers and inspire repeat purchases.

“Shopify has focused the last decade on solving complex problems for entrepreneurs by making commerce seamless and accessible,” said Riveria. “Now, we want to do the same for customers. We set out to solve the common pain points in the customer’s shopping journey today, while developing specific features, like local business discovery, that will be relevant today and in the future.”
