Toll is changing things up, bringing together multiple freight services under one roof with plans for a huge operational hub on the Gold Coast.

Toll Group has announced plans for a 10,250 sqm operational hub on the Gold Coast. The multi-purpose ‘super depot’ will combine Toll’s three existing hubs, making it the first purpose-built integrated facility of its kind for the logistics company.

Toll hopes that the merging of multiple freight services under one roof will lead to a seamless freight offering. Best practice supply chain management of areas that are traditionally separated due to operational requirements mean that everything from medical supplies to fashion will be delivered worldwide from the Gold Coast hub.

Managing Director of Toll Group, Michael Byrne, along with developers LOGOS and Partners Group, broke ground on the site at Captain Cook Drive, Arundel, just this morning.

“We have a strong vision for Queensland and Toll is making a substantial investment on the Gold Coast with this new state of the art facility,” said Byrne, emphasising that this investment underlines economic confidence in the state and a strong belief in the future growth of Toll’s business.

The location was chosen to minimise distance and time travelled between the depot and all customers (from retail to agriculture), with immediate access to major arterial routes throughout southeast Queensland.

Over 120 Gold Coast locals will be employed at the new facility with construction scheduled for completion by the end of April 2019. Toll’s existing sites (at Molendinar, Arundel and Burleigh Heads) will stagger their relocation until the end of July 2019 to ensure a smooth transition for customers.

With the shifting landscape of e-commerce, it’s in fulfilment where online retailers are finding their competitive edge. Toll’s plans reveal the next steps in this evolution and the streamlining of processes for best practice logistics.
